Afronaught - Shapin' Fluid (2001)
(Apollon)
Afronaught - Orin Walters (Bugz in The Atic) is fusing soul-jazz experimentation with leftfield dance techniques, Walter explores the range of styles that influence the fractured beat movement in this release. Don Ricardo takes a vocal turn on "Take U There," a late-1970s soul capsule , then a sound set off by Loretta Heywood on the downtempo number "Just A'nutha Day." The title track wraps a mellow uptempo vibe before leading in to a call to dance by Tittla on "Work It." (URB Magz)
