Particle - Launchpad (2004)

This was posted at The Sky Move Sideways, but the link has gone. Arguably the hottest jam-band around, Launchpad is the studio debut album from the road veteran - Particle. "The album captures the band's indescribable all-instrumental concert vibe -- "space-porn" as they call it -- in a more controlled environment. Co-producer Tom Rothrock (Beck, Foo Fighters) slims down the band's tendencies for extended improvisation -- somewhat -- but keeps the juices flowing on an album that works apart from the trippy visuals and audience participation that enhance the band's notoriously long five-hour performances."

" ... Counterpoint -- always right on the money when it comes to picking rare tunes for its excellent compilations. But along with those compilations, Counterpoint has also commissioned new takes on the music by a variety of current and cutting-edge talents -- artists like Nicola Conte, Bugz In The Attic, Yam Who, Beatfanatic, and others -- all of whom have remixed and remade tracks for limited edition Counterpoint singles. Most of these tracks were only available for a short time, and only on vinyl -- but this set brings the best of them back, along with a few other side projects that were never issued at the time -- all in a beautiful flurry of tunes that link together the past and the future through a set of magical grooves! ..." Late September is the debut album from Deepest Blue (Matt Schwartz and Joel Edwards) although both have made names for themselves within the music industry. Vocalist Emma Salokoski sounds especially lovely -- singing in English with a really universal appeal -- hardly what you'd expect from the icy north of Finland, and much more what we'd expect to hear from the London scene...."(DG)

" From the Perfect Toy label. The first full length set from Zero Crossing -- an album of stark electronics and jagged rhythms that follows nicely in the spirit of their earlier singles! From the Ubiquity label artist, T - Cisco is Theodore Feyder a studio wunderkind who plays guitar, bass, and all manner of vintage keyboards and synthesizers. The label (Ubiquity) emphasis for live musicians was markedly exempted for this recording perhaps for Feyder's exceptional programming and overdubbing capabilities. Swarms of wicked beats though the focus is basically on the beefier end of trip-hop with shades of spy/blaxploitation soundtracks.
