Beats meet funk, fusion and Brazilian elements on this second album by the British dance act Mr. Gone led by bassist/multi-instrumentalist Simon T. Bramley. He sets the bar a bit higher for producers alike on this album but, unlike a few other jazz fusionaries of note (Jazzanova, 4hero, Carl Craig), the rhythmic attack doesn't stray far from his influences: an up-tempo jazz dancer or the clatter of the Brazilian samba.
Saxophone and organ propel the funky "Equation: Boogie," which also features a bouncy marimba solo, while the percussive "Les Cinq Notes Magiques" blends club beats with Brazilian rhythms and whispered vocals. Plenty of funk/electro funk grooves combined with thumping bass and peppy fender rhodes through out. The album also includes Mosquito Coast '98," an intoxicating remix by smooth-jazz favorites Down to the Bone.
