Solar Twins (1999)

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

" Solar Twins is the British-raised, Los Angeles-based duo of David Norland (electronic instruments) and Joanna Stevens (vocals). Norland, who grew up in West London, has a classical background; Stevens is half Burmese. They first teamed up in England, then moved to Los Angeles, where they played at the Viper Room and were signed to Maverick Records. Their self-titled debut album was released in September 1999 and they split after attempting a second, thwarted by insurmountable creative differences. David Norland moved into composition for television and film, as well as producing other artists. His record label Apparent is home to UK electropop act Frankmusik and other forward-looking pop acts. Deepest Blue - Late September (2 CD ed.)

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Late September is the debut album from Deepest Blue (Matt Schwartz and Joel Edwards) although both have made names for themselves within the music industry. The most notable notch on the duo's belts is producer Matt's co-writing credits on Massive Attack's Dissolved Girl, made famous with a little bit of help from Adidas and The Matrix. While it isn't an earth-shattering album, that's not what you'd expect from them, Late September is perfect for something just to chill to. This is the 2 CD version that include bonus tracks and remixes.

Quintessence - 5 AM (2005)

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

"The soulful second set from Quintessence -- even better than their debut, ....The Finnish combo seem to have refined their sound even more -- working in a cool, laidback groove that's got lots of sweet jazzy bits in the instrumentation -- but which also comes across with an unabashedly strong crossover groove! Vocalist Emma Salokoski sounds especially lovely -- singing in English with a really universal appeal -- hardly what you'd expect from the icy north of Finland, and much more what we'd expect to hear from the London scene...."(DG)

Zero Crossing - My Kinda Funk (2005)

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

" From the Perfect Toy label. The first full length set from Zero Crossing -- an album of stark electronics and jagged rhythms that follows nicely in the spirit of their earlier singles! The sound here is definitely steeped in some of the colder waves coming from the German scene of late -- that style that's explored more heavily by Compost and Sonar Kollektiv in the 21st Century, a real move away from warmer jazz influences into a groove that mixes 80s experimentalism with influences from a wide range of hip hop production. ....... T-Cisco - The Destructive Edit (1999)

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

From the Ubiquity label artist, T - Cisco is Theodore Feyder a studio wunderkind who plays guitar, bass, and all manner of vintage keyboards and synthesizers. The label (Ubiquity) emphasis for live musicians was markedly exempted for this recording perhaps for Feyder's exceptional programming and overdubbing capabilities. Swarms of wicked beats though the focus is basically on the beefier end of trip-hop with shades of spy/blaxploitation soundtracks.

It's heavy on mellow breaks, makes excellent use of Latin guitar, and jazz influences, serves up a little funk and hip-hop, has nice feminine drops, and finishes off with warm, cinematic strings ...."
